Community Service

For the Spring of 2019 we hope to increase Mu Lambda’s positive impact on the community. All brothers already have a base requirement of 15 service hours a semester and many go above and beyond this number. We plan on partnering with the local Habitat for Humanities chapter at USC to go on builds where we will be bringing out the new pledge class along with brothers as a way to teach them the importance of community service the brothers of Mu Lambda share. We also plan to better our impact on the city of Columbia through the adopt a road program where we can take part in keeping Columbia clean.

As long as the Mu Lambda chapter has been active at the University of South Carolina, we have emphasized philanthropy as a main point of our semester operations. One of  our main philanthropy organizations is the United Service Organization (USO) who provide social programs and entertainment to our military and their families. Another organization is known as UMTTR that works to change social perspectives on mental health. We also contribute to funds along with the rest of the Intrafraternity council to the Relay for Life foundation for cancer research, as well as to our campus Dance Marathon organization that donates over $1 million per year to MUSC Children’s Hospital.

The majority of our donated funds are raised through hosting several philanthropy events per semester such as our yearly Clays for a Cause shooting competition and Burgers and Ball basketball tournament. Our philanthropy committee works hard to organize high quality events with the lowest costs possible in order to donate the highest proceeds possible to our causes. If you have any questions or suggestions about our philanthropy committee, please reach out through our contact us page!
